Department of ANSC

  • Member, ANSC Merit promotion committee, Spring 2021 - Present.

  • Chair, ANSC Programs & Courses Committee, Fall 2013 – Present.   During this time, our committee has:

    • Redesigned ANSC advising to increase the quality of information given to students, the efficiency of the process, and the quality of the mentoring relationship between faculty and students.

    • Streamlined ANSC major requirements into two core "tracks" to allow for more flexibility for students, easier advising, and more adaptability of the program for students with non-traditional interests.

    • Implemented a minimum grade of C- for all courses used to satisfy ANSC major requirements.

    • Reviewed new and revised courses for the ANSC department.

  • Chair, ANSC Teaching Evaluation Review Committee, Fall 2013 – Spring 2018.

    • Conducted twice yearly reviews of teaching in the ANSC department.

    • Provided counseling to faculty who fell short of departmental expectations for teaching.

    • Revised the peer-evaluation system to provide more useful feedback more efficiently.

  • Coordinator, ANSC Online teaching faculty community.

  • Coordinator, ANSC Lecturers’ faculty development group, Fall 2018 – Spring 2020.

  • Departmental Representative, Directors of Undergraduate Programs forums.  Fall 2018-Present.

  • Campus Farm Oversight Committee, Fall 2018-Present.  Chair, Fall 2019- Present

  • Advisor, Pre-veterinary Club, Fall 2010-Present.

College of AGNR

  • Co-Chair, Campus Agriculture and Natural resources “Agroecology Corridor” project, January 2018 – January 2020.

    • Developed a vision for a re-imagining of large parts of the UMD campus into an Agroecology Corridor- a living classroom for teaching, extension and research on campus.

  • Member, College of AGNR Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Respect working group.  August 2020 - Present.

  • Member, College of AGNR review panel for the ANSC department Chair.  Spring 2019.

  • Member, College of AGNR Promotions Review Committee for professional track faculty (primary to senior level promotions). 
    Spring 2019- Fall 2020.  Chair, 2020.

  • Member, College of AGNR Promotions Review Committee for professional track faculty (senior to principal level promotions)

  • Member, Dean’s strategic positioning committee for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Spring  2017.

    • Participated in a 30-person team made up of representatives from throughout the college.  Worked to gather data from faculty, staff, students, stakeholders, and the public about the college of AGNR.  Helped to devise six key strategic initiatives for the college. January 2017 – May 2017.

    • Member, One health implementation committee, March 2018 – September 2019.

  • Member, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Faculty and Staff Awards Committee, Spring 2013 - 2015.

  • Member, UMD Faculty Senate, Spring 2021-Present.

  • Member, Phi Beta Kappa student selection committee for the University of Maryland, Spring 2017 – 2018.

  • Member, UMD Honors faculty development community.  Fall 2017-Fall 2018.

  • Member, Search committee for the selection of the director of the UMD Teaching and Learning Transformation Center.  Nov 2014- Jan 2015.

  • Member of the Campus Faculty Board for General Education- Scholarship in Practice courses, Fall 2012-present.

    • Helped to develop models for classes in this new type of general education course

    • Played a significant role in developing the instructor evaluation rubric for SP courses

    • Reviewed over 300 course submissions for this category

  • Member, UMD I-series Faculty Development Community, Fall 2012, Fall 2013, Fall 2014, Fall 2015.

  • Member of HHMI funded “Host-Pathogen Interactions” teaching group in the department of biology, Spring 2011 – Spring 2015.

 

Veterinary Profession

  • Member, VETS team - Veterinary Student Debt initiative – Joint collaboration between the University of Maryland and Virginia Tech in support of our regional veterinary college and its students.  Spring 2018 – Present.

  • Mentor for fourth year veterinary students during a three-week clerkship on teaching as part of a career in veterinary medicine.
